Red yucca (Hesperaloe parvifolia) is a desert native of Texas and Mexico. It is very much adapted to life in harsh conditions, and can handle a wide range of temperatures while enduring dry weather. The leaves are very much like a yucca, in that they are thin with a needle-like tip. The big appeal of this plant is the tall stalks of red and orange flowers it produces during the summer. Of course, this makes it a favorite of hummingbirds. One thing the plant does not like is overly wet soil, and/or too much rain.
