Although not related to medicinal valerian, 'Pretty Betty' can make a nice focal plant for the pollinator and hummingbird friendly gardener. Fragrant clusters of small light red flowers arise from a bushy clump from spring until autumn. A long-blooming perennial that is generally pest and disease free, it is tolerant of dry and poor soils, and may not grow as well in overly wet situations. It can be invasive in some places, so if you're worried about aggressive spreading, remove the seed pods before they release the seeds.
