Hibiscus hamabo - Yellow Hardy Hibiscus

This lesser known type of hibiscus is one of the few with true yellow flowers. It is not as hardy as what people refer to hardy hibiscus, but it is winter hardy to zone 8 and above. My plant survived a winter's night at 10F, although it was killed back to the ground with that one. The flowers are attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies, and it is fairly salt-tolerant, making it a perfect plant for those near the coast. The growth habit is bushy, and it can grow to over 10' in height if allowed, but responds well to trimming to maintain the shape.
