False Freesia, red - Freesia laxa

Blooming 1-inch wide flowers on slender stalks, Freesia laxa will add a splash of color to the spring garden without taking up a lot of space. From the iris family, the grass-like leaves never reach over 12 inches in length. The plant's native range is South Africa, so it can handle heat and dry weather, and dislikes soggy winter soil. It goes dormant in summer's heat and in mild climates, will regrow leaves in the fall and over the winter.
