Datura moonflower (Datura inoxia) makes a bushy 3-foot-wide plant bearing large (6-inch long) tubular white flowers that close during the day, but open at night to emit a lovely fragrance. This habit attracts nighttime pollinators like large sphinx moths, which can lay their eggs on the stems. Caution in letting the larvae hatch; they will eat the plant voraciously! Also be aware that the plant is toxic, so do not plant it in a place where pets or small children may accidentally eat it or even the seeds.
