Native to the southeastern U.S., American beautyberry ( Callicarpa americana )is a hardy perennial that really shows off with its bright purple berries in late summer and early autumn. This bushy plant enjoys partial sun and moderately moist soil and will thrive in the same growing conditions as hydrangea. Native pollinators enjoy the relatively inconspicuous flowers, but bright purple clusters of purple fruit that emerge are hard to miss.
